THE SHELTER FUND

THE SHELTER FUND was established to assist members of the community who have experienced hardship due to unforeseen disasters such as fire or flooding. Intended to help those who suddenly find themselves without shelter, funds are generally granted for specific cases of need, and recipients are identified at the discretion of the CFLC Board of Directors on a year-round basis.

Annual Furr Ball Donates Proceeds to Benefit The Shelter Fund!

On Friday, November 15, 2024, the Humane Society of Lincoln County held its annual Furr Ball fundraising event. The theme was "Wizard of Paws" and the evening was a huge success. This has long been the Humane Society's most high-profile event of the year, often raising funds for the animal shelter in excess of $50,000 through ticket sales, a silent auction, a live auction, donations, and more.

This year they decided to donate all of the event proceeds to the Community Foundation of Lincoln County, something that had been unprecedented for the organization. In tandem with this partnership, on behalf of the Humane Society, Alan Lefebvre produced a video focused on the CFLC to share with donors and event attendees.

The Community Foundation of Lincoln County — which has, in turn, supported the Humane Society with grants in the past — is truly grateful for this generous effort. Its board members and volunteers extend their sincere gratitude in response to such momentous support. It truly takes a village! Please click on the YouTube link and you can watch the video documenting the South Fork/Salt fires and how the Community Foundation helped so many.

How to Donate to the Shelter Fund

The South Fork and Salt Fires in June with subsequent flooding in July caused extensive damage and displaced many residents of the Ruidoso area. Donations have been very generous, and we relay thanks to all our donors from over 1,000 households that were grant recipients. Over $3.3 million will have been distributed to those most affected by the end of this year. Donations to the Shelter Fund specifically for this summer’s events will be gladly accepted through November 30th. After that date Shelter Fund donations are still welcomed. They will be used to prepare for future fire and flood events that will inevitably occur.

****** UPDATE ON SOUTH FORK AND SALT FIRE ASSISTANCE ********

We are honored to have assisted over 1,100 families impacted by the devastating South Fork/Salt fires and flooding. Our mission is to provide essential aid during challenging times, and we are incredibly grateful for the support of our donors and the resilience shown by our community.

Unfortunately, due to overwhelming demand, funds are depleted, and support is transitioning to a long-term focus. As a result, the Shelter Fund is no longer able to accept new applications for the South Fork & Salt Fires.

We thank our generous donors that have funded grants and our mission to serve Lincoln County in the aftermath of this summer’s natural disasters. Your understanding and continued support is appreciated as we work together to rebuild our community. For those still seeking assistance, we encourage you to explore other local and regional resources.
